Academy Receives Blue Ribbon School of Excellence 2017 Award!

On Thursday, September 28th, 2017 the U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017. The Academy of Our Lady of Peace in New Providence, NJ was recognized as a 2017 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence based on the school’s overall academic performance. “National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the honorees. “You are visionaries, innovators and leaders. You have much to teach us: some of you personalize student learning, others engage parents and communities in the work and life of your local schools and still others develop strong and forward-thinking leaders from among your teaching staff.” The Academy of Our Lady of Peace has been awarded Blue Ribbon School status by the U.S. Department of Education based on their overall academic excellence. The Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating a safe and welcoming school where students master challenging content. This prestigious award is given to a select number of private or public schools that exceed the criteria and represents exemplary teaching and learning.

Pie in the Face for Charity

There were a lot of laughs in the gym after our March First Friday Mass. Students and faculty watched as five teachers and our Principal, Mr. Castillo, got pied in the face by students who contributed $100 or more to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series campaign to find a cure for blood cancer. Ms. Geary, Mr. Castillo, Mrs. Frith, Ms. Church, Mr. Gargiulo and Mrs. Birkmann were certainly good sports! The 6th grade also won a pizza party for donating the most money. Way to go! Ms. Kim Johnston organized this charity and fun event and was pleased to announce that our school raised over $1800 for this important research. We also had a Pajama Day for the lower grades and a Tag Day on Thursday to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Series campaign. It is a part of our school's philosophy to be ever mindful of the needs of others and to do our best to help in ways that we can. Romans 12:13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.

Clifford Visited The Academy – Fun Times!

Catholic Schools Week was a fun and action-packed week. We started the national celebration with a family Mass followed by a reception and Open House on Sunday, Jan. 28th. The Scholastic Book Fair also opened for the week with a guest appearance of Clifford the Big Red Dog! Then on Monday students paraded into the gym with their classroom banners for the opening ceremonies of the Blue Ribbon Olympics. The afternoon included volleyball matches with the faculty and middle school students participating. Tuesday hosted a second Open House that was well attended. Wednesday morning all students attended the Jump Rope for the American Heart Association to promote good heart health with our children so they can learn lifelong lessons of daily physical exercise. Thursday the fun continued with "Crazy Blue Hair Day." There was a middle school Spelling Olympics and a special "Grandpersons Day" that included a breakfast, craft and shopping spree at the Book Fair. Finally Friday concluded the week with the closing ceremonies of the Blue Ribbon Olympics where medals were awarded and students were recognized for their accomplishments. Students were also able to wear their "Crazy Socks" that day. Thank you to everyone who helped organize and volunteer at all of these events. God Bless us all and all Catholic Schools across this country.
